The government’s third step involves relaxing around the cultural sector, which means cinemas may open. For now, the question is whether it is possible to really begin the third step of relaxation on May 26. For example, the Outbreak Management Team (OMT) has already stated that relaxation should be paused if it appears that hospitalization will increase again in the near future.
Hopefully, however, relaxation will come relatively soon. This is why we are already looking a little ahead of what we can expect on the silver screen when the halls open again. So you should not miss these 5 films once the cinemas open.
1. Godzilla v. Kong
We start with a huge blockbuster movie, both literally and figuratively. After years of building with three movies, it is finally time for the mammoth battle and of course you have to try this out on the largest screen you can find. It’s a movie for which the term blockbuster was created.
Two giants compete in the movie after Godzilla suddenly begins showing strange behavior. The movie is already available in the United States on HBO Max and it looks like the movie has received well-liked reviews. You should not miss the Century Festival as it is one of the first films to come to the cinema as soon as the halls open again.
2. Nomadland
Also, the recent Oscar-winning Nomadland shouldn’t be missed once the cinemas reopen. This movie is about a woman who completely changes her life when her husband dies. She decided to roam the United States like a Bedouin.
The film won the Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actress in April, while the film was also nominated for three other awards. Chloe Chow directed the movie and made history by winning an Oscar. Zhao is also the director of The Eternals, the new Marvel movie to be released later this year.
3. No one
Those who prefer strong action movies can be ready for anyone as soon as the movie theaters open again. This new action movie is reminiscent of John Wake, but with Bob Odenkirk in the lead role. Of course we already know Odenkirk from his role as Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, but he’s now taking on a completely different role.
As the “nobody” hatch Mansell, he is a former CIA killer who is being stalked by a Russian gang leader. It turns out that was a huge mistake, because no one can be tempted out of the tent this way. What follows is an hour and a half of pure work as you dive in from one fun to the next.
4. Judas and the black Christ
Judas and Black Christ are also worth seeing. The film is considered one of the best films of the year this year, and is the autobiographical story of Fred Hampton (played by Daniel Kaluuya who also won Best Supporting Actor for his acting skills at the Oscars). It is the performances of Kaluya and Lakeith Stanfield that take the film to the next level and that is why alone the movie is worth watching.
However, the story itself is incredibly relevant to the current social climate. Plus, the movie is also fun when it comes to music. After all, the movie won Best Song for a reason. Just keep in mind that Judas and the Black Messiah won’t be released until June 3, a week after the halls reopen.
5. Mugen Train Devil Slayer
Demon Slayer Mugen Train will also be released a week later (on June 3), but it might also be included in this list of movies that you should check out once the movie theaters open. This movie is a direct sequel to a popular anime that has already been voted the best of 2019. With Season 2 on this year’s schedule, it’s important then that fans of Tanagiro and his comrades see the Demon Slayers playing on the silver screen.
The movie has actually broken several records in the past year and that’s not entirely expected. Demon Slayer Mugen Train brings a great story with excellent animation arts that many studios in the West can learn from. Fans are so looking forward to the release of the movie (which has been so widely circulated by COVID-19) that several websites have stopped working after it became apparent that the movie would be released on Blu-Ray in mid-June.
You should check these movies as soon as the cinemas open
These are the five films we think you should watch as soon as the cinemas open in the Netherlands. If it isn’t the case that theaters open their doors on May 26th, we always have hope that it will happen after a week, so you can suddenly check out all five. Tell us in the comments which movies you want to watch on the silver screen!
