TV virtual surround sound should be corrected later for the PS5, as Sony reveals more about Tempest 3D AudioTech.
Sony explains more about its 3D sound technology for PlayStation 5, but there’s one problem: It won’t work with TVs until after launch.
A new PlayStation Blog post reveals that launches of Spider-Man games: Miles Morales, Demon’s Souls, Destruction AllStars, Sackboy A Big Adventure and Astro’s Playroom will use the technology, as well as Gran Turismo 7, Returnal, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Horizon Forbidden West And Resident Evil Village when they are released.
But you won’t be able to hear the difference unless you use compatible headphones, as Sony is keen to pay for its Pulse 3D wireless headset, which costs £ 90.
Sony wrote: “ On the PS5, you’ll be able to experience 3D sound with the headphones many of you already own, either through a USB connection to the controller, or by plugging the headphones into the 3.5mm headphone jack of the DualSense Wireless Controller. ” Isabel Tomatis.
She added, “We are also working on virtual surround sound through the built-in speakers in our televisions.”
Although virtual surround sound for TV speakers will not be available on launch day for the PS5, it’s still a feature we’re very excited about, and our engineers are working hard to introduce it to the PS5 in the future.
3D Audio has been hugely promoted since the first unveiling of PlayStation 5, which was featured in Mark Cerny’s tech talk and initial TV announcements.
As always, it is difficult to demonstrate audio-related improvements without arriving at the new console and the benefits of the technology will become truly apparent once the console is released on November 19.
