PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, also known as PUBG, will no longer be operational in India. As of Friday (October 30), the company announced the development in a Facebook post. This comes after PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite found an indication in an order issued by the Indian government in September stating that 118 apps were banned by the Ministry of Electronics, Information and Technology due to security threats from China.
Mobile game owner Tencent Games stated on Facebook that it “deeply regrets this finding” and thanked PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite fans for their support in India. The company also added: “The protection of user data has always been a top priority and we have always complied with the data protection laws and regulations in force in India. Play information for all users is processed in a transparent manner as described in our privacy policy.”

The widely popular multiplayer game has seen its user base rise in the ongoing pandemic. In fact, the fans along with the professional gamers make up nearly 25 percent of PUBG Mobile’s user base in India.
On news they didn’t expect to wake up to, players took to Twitter to make an emotional farewell to a game that had been their long-time companion.
