For an American president obsessed with size – his hands, his fortune and his crowd – Donald Trump made something of a daring turn Thursday night by addressing the country from an office that seemed designed for the root.
Trump said on Thursday he would leave the White House if the electoral college votes for Democratic-elect President Joe Biden – the earliest time to admit defeat – but his furniture stole the limelight.
As he hunted down reporters and repeated unfounded allegations of election fraud, the internet focused on his unusually small office. Some called it a symbol of Trump’s shrinking stature, some questioned whether he was filmed (he wasn’t), and most of them even laughed.
Actor Mark Hamill tweeted: “Maybe if you act on your own, stop lying to undermine a fair election and start thinking about what’s good for the country. Instead of complaining about the unfair treatment of you, you’ll be invited to sit at the big boy’s house. The table.”
Hashtag #Hijab It quickly went viral on Twitter, with people mocking the president as a baby banished to the kids’ table on Thanksgiving.
“I thought this photo was photoshop, but no, it’s funnyly symbolic! Small office. Small hands. Tiny little soul,” Adam Lasnick tweeted.
Trump later sent out a blizzard of tweets accusing the media of misrepresenting his comments and Twitter of fabricating “negative things” in their blockbuster section.
