These lonely foxes found love in custody just in time for the holidays

CNN previously reported that Harris, a short-clawed Asian fox in the Cornish Seal Reserve in England, lost his partner and found himself alone for the first time in four years. The Pumpkin, who had lost her elderly partner, convinced Harris to give up his bachelor’s ways in the name of love.

With fears of being exposed to cats, Pumpkin patiently waited for Harris to arrive from his Corniche home to her SEA LIFE Scarborough residence.

Although insertion of these foxes can be difficult and nerve-wracking, it is best for the male to move into the female’s territory so that he submits them more easily.

“After a very sad period for both Pumpkin and the animal welfare team here in Scarborough, we are excited to announce that the Pumpkin is not only happy again, but Harris has settled very well and is already part of the SEA LIFE Scarborough family,” curator Todd Germain said in a press release.

SEA LIFE said the couple initially moved into rented accommodation where they were able to get to know each other privately. Now things are going smoothly.

As their bond grew, they took the next steps and got the keys to their house forever. Guests at SEA LIFE Scarborough can now meet an adorable otter couple.

While Harris has to say goodbye to his family on the Corniche Seal Reserve, he is following up with them on WhatsApp.

“We are very pleased that Pumpkin and Harris are doing well and have settled in place quickly,” said Tamara Cooper, curator of the Corniche Cell Sanctuary.

SEA LIFE Aquariums reopened on December 2 with comprehensive safety measures, including online-only reservations, enhanced cleaning, personal protective equipment and social distancing.
