Nick Ames was our man at Amex. His report has arrived. Thanks for reading this MBM. Nighty Night!
17:26
The role of Ralph Hsienhotel. “I think the penalty kick was inside, it was a penalty kick. The line is also there, and it was also a little inside the line, so it was clear that the contact was inside the penalty area and it was a penalty kick, which is why we have the VAR.”
17:18
Heaven is not leaving that low, and is pressing Graham Potter on this … only for Brighton’s manager to respond in a measured and gracious way. “I’m not sure. I didn’t see it again. It looks like the first challenge is outside, I don’t know if there is a second challenge. This is what the referee seemed to think, and if so, that is the case. From our perspective, we are disappointed with our performance.” In the second half, but after we said it was a level game, disappointed with the result. ” Don’t let Heaven lie, take it back to the penalty spot. “If the offense is considered at home, and they prove that to be the case, then that is what we are using it for and it is just one of the things that you have to accept.” Long pause as the interviewer realizes Potter is not biting. Finally he asks a few questions about football, but you can tell his heart isn’t in any of those.
17:12
Skye Badger Danny has worked on the penalty decision. “To be honest, I didn’t find it clear enough to know. I thought their players were very unhappy, but sometimes the decisions go to you, and sometimes they don’t.” Click Sky as well, to test the patience achieved. “I don’t know what you want me to say. I just stood there waiting to see either way. Even if it was a free kick, Prowsey has a great delivery and who knows, we could have scored from that anyway.”
17:08
Brighton remained in 16th place with 10 points, four points behind the relegation zone. They surround David Coote, who has been the focus of another VAR controversy. On Sky, Jimmy Carragher and Freddy Ljungberg both said that Southampton’s winning penalty should not have been awarded. If you push, I might argue the other way, but you know. The opinions will be shared with grace on social media. Anyway, don’t bother with it: this win means Southampton is only the 11th team in Premier League history to reach 1,000 points.

Full time: Brighton 1-2 Southampton
Danny Ings Returns. Southampton is instantly back on track. Saints win Monday for the first time in 18 years. More conveniently, they go to fifth. Brighton is now playing ten games without a home win. The only team to defeat them at Amex in 2020 is Arsenal.
16:50
90 minutes +3: Some shots scattered in the middle of the stadium. The watch is Southampton’s girlfriend a lot now.
16:49
90 minutes +2: Curl the hair left. Trossard tries to block a header via McCarthy but she’s too close to the goalkeeper who claims.
16:48
90 minutes +1: Feltman is caught slowing down and sends Armstrong to the box on the right. It’s one-to-one with Ryan, who works well for keeping him off target and forcing him to turn. A decisive intervention keeps Brighton hopeful.
16:46
89 minutes: Basuma came into the book due to his overactive reaction to punishing them for making a miscellaneous mistake in the park.
16:45
87 minutes: McCarthy is reserved for taking his sweet time in goal kick.
16:44
85 minutes: Brighton comes again and wins a right-hand corner. McCarthy confidently claims. The hosts feel wronged, and angry that David Cote at least didn’t go to check on the screen.
16:41
84 minutes: Brighton comes to Saints with a feeling. Maupay spins and shoots from the edge of the box but his effort sails wide from the bottom left.
16:39
82 minutes: Brighton responds with a double changeover, sending Trussard and Jahanbakhsh in place of White and Welbeck.
16:38
Goal! Brighton 1-2 Southampton (Ings 81 penalty kick)
Ings takes the penalty kick to the left of the net, and sends Ryan in the wrong direction. Textbook!

16:37
80 minutes: Mars goes in the book to challenge him.

Punishment for the saints!
79 minutes: David Coote does the mime for the telly-box, and points straight to where! Do not check the screen.
16:35
78 minutes: The video assistant referee took a long time before that. It is very close.
16:34
77 minutes: Walker-Peters advances on the right side of March, chasing a long pass at Vestergaard, and threatening to break into the box. Practice driving it from behind. A free kick is awarded even though that appeared inside the penalty area. Video assistant referee will check.
Updated
16:34
76 minutes: Mars advances down the left and slides a neat diagonal runway to launch Maupay into space. Maupay is not very smart, hitting the closest cannons.
16:32
75 minutes: The Saints threaten to take over the game for the first time this evening. Brighton finds it difficult to find his way from half of his stadium.
16:31
73 minutes: Redmond advances down to the left and slides in for Ings, who lays his back on goal, plays ball twice, turns. He tries to make space for himself, but the ball approaches Redmond, who kept going. Redmond creams volleyball over the bar. What a goal it could have been! The best cross pass this season.
16:29
71 minutes: More of that high-paced choppy stuff. But no complaints. On the whole, this game is designed for good watching, except for individual quiet.
16:26
69 minutes: A second change of saints, as Redmond comes up with Walcott.
16:26
68 minutes: March does something down the left. Was it a bullet? Try a cross? Not sure, but he drops and gets the ball out of play. Brighton looks vibrant again.
16:24
66 minutes: Nice pass to the bottom right by Gross for Lamptey, who sneaks up at the top, enters the box, and tries to play Maupay. Not good. He recovered the ball and Gross recovered, arriving late, instead. Gross leans back and his efforts are nominal imperative at their best.
16:22
64 minutes: Graham Potter had seen enough, and the extremely calm Connolly replaced his leading scorer, Neil Mobay.
16:21
63 minutes: Walcott plays smart ball in the left inner channel. Engage uncharacteristically into the back foot and can’t get there before he suffocates Ryan. The saints are now returning to this, and at last they have some things up front.
16:20
62 minutes: Corner of the Saints on the left, Romeo organizes a period of pressure. Ryan flutters upon Ward Prause’s delivery. Armstrong sends it back from the right. Ryan claims well this time.
16:19
61 minutes: There is no full load going on right now. The Saints would be a little happier, you guessed it, after they put out the Brighton Fire in the second half.
Updated
16:17
59 minutes: Armstrong exploded on the right, sending Achievement away. Sprinkle wide to the left for Walcott, which takes a touch inside, reaches the edge of the D, and curls hard toward the upper right. It would have been the goal of a picture book … but it’s a few inches wide. Not sure if Ryan would ever get that.
16:16
58 minutes: Some high-paced nonsense. More than two passes sequence at a higher price at the moment. Both teams are fighting hard.
16:14
56 minutes: Dunk goes into the book to interfere late on Adams. Excessive enthusiasm would be the best way to describe it. Fortunately not much in the way of contact. He couldn’t have any complaints.
16:13
55 minutes: Everything has been in Brighton since the reboot. Saints haven’t got Ings in the game yet.
16:12
53 minutes: The march from the left intersects. Half of the Saints is clear. Basma takes a contemplative look. He turns left wide, but Welbeck tries to get it into goal. It rings instead. He would have been able to take a second blow on the ball had Connolly not barred the offside, and McCarthy knocked out to claim.
16:10
52 minutes: An unsettling moment for Welbeck, who was gripping his shoulder in excruciating pain. He took a huge – but fair – hit at 50-50 with Bednarek. Fortunately, he woke up again soon enough, albeit with a grimace that wrinkled his forehead.
16:09
51 minutes: Gross grabs a ball down the left inner channel and hooks to the right for Lamptey, who tries to turn around the over-excited McCarthy, speeding off his streak. Lamptey gets the ball out of play, which relaxes the keeper.
16:07
50 minutes: Vestergaard calls up his inner Beckenbauer, skips a couple of challenges down the left and slides the ball to Walcott, which wasn’t a good cross pass and is easy for Ryan to claim. Beautiful run by the central defender of Saints.
16:06
48 minutes: The total swings in the free kick from the right. Ings advances in front of Webster, heading over the bar. There’s no angle, though, because Webster was sentenced, somewhat harshly, to throwing an Achievement on the ground while the pair quarreled in the air.
16:04
47 minutes: A poor touch in midfield from Romeo allows Connolly, Gros and Mars to go forward. Romeo tries to straighten, chases, but Gross clips to the ankle, accepts a free kick at 25 yards, and gets into the book.
16:02
Brighton starts the second half. Some strange sequences could end tonight. The hosts have not won a match against their home fans since last December, when they beat Bournemouth 2-0. Meanwhile, the Saints haven’t won on Monday Night since 2002. If this ends in a tie, I forgot I said anything. But the Saints are looking for victory: they have sent Ings in place of Djenibo.
15:47
The first half: Brighton 1-1 Southampton
Brighton was the better team in the first 45, but they failed to challenge Westergaard at the corner and paid the price. It is well prepared for the second half!

15:46
Goal! Brighton 1-1 Southampton (45 Westergaard)
Saints did not appear in the attack all evening, but they will level up! Armstrong wins on the right corner. The set pieces were rolled and met with a towering header from Westergaard, who hit the ball in the upper left, giving Ryan any chance.
Updated
15:44
43 minutes: Welbeck wins a ball he never had and sends Connolly whistling to the left. Welbeck continues to push forward, reaches the area, puts his leg back in order to meet Connolly and shoot home from six yards … but Westergaard Hawkes is clear in time.
15:43
42 minutes: Nice spin on the right seam by Armstrong. Swinging along a tightrope, he trades brittleness with Walcott, but then he tries one trick too much and gets in trouble. Shame, because that was such a wonderful skill.
15:41
40 minutes: After all this, the Saints are getting a little better, albeit from a low base. Walcott dribbles into the right channel and draws a weak shot across the goalkeeper’s face. On the touchline, Graham Potter leads internationally recognized mime to put some gory effort into it.
