84 minutes: Brighton comes to Saints with a feeling. Maupay spins and shoots from the edge of the box but his effort sails wide from the bottom left.

82 minutes: Brighton responds with a double changeover, sending Trussard and Jahanbakhsh in place of White and Welbeck.

Ings takes the penalty kick to the left of the net, and sends Ryan in the wrong direction. Textbook!

80 minutes: Mars goes in the book to challenge him.

79 minutes: David Coote does the mime for the telly-box, and points straight to where! Do not check the screen.

78 minutes: The video assistant referee took a long time before that. It is very close.

77 minutes: Walker-Peters advances on the right side of March, chasing a long pass at Vestergaard, and threatening to break into the box. Practice driving it from behind. A free kick is awarded even though that appeared inside the penalty area. Video assistant referee will check.

76 minutes: Mars advances down the left and slides a neat diagonal runway to launch Maupay into space. Maupay is not very smart, hitting the closest cannons.

75 minutes: The Saints threaten to take over the game for the first time this evening. Brighton finds it difficult to find his way from half of his stadium.

66 minutes: Nice pass to the bottom right by Gross for Lamptey, who sneaks up at the top, enters the box, and tries to play Maupay. Not good. He recovered the ball and Gross recovered, arriving late, instead. Gross leans back and his efforts are nominal imperative at their best.

64 minutes: Graham Potter had seen enough, and the extremely calm Connolly replaced his leading scorer, Neil Mobay.

63 minutes: Walcott plays smart ball in the left inner channel. Engage uncharacteristically into the back foot and can’t get there before he suffocates Ryan. The saints are now returning to this, and at last they have some things up front.

62 minutes: Corner of the Saints on the left, Romeo organizes a period of pressure. Ryan flutters upon Ward Prause’s delivery. Armstrong sends it back from the right. Ryan claims well this time.

61 minutes: There is no full load going on right now. The Saints would be a little happier, you guessed it, after they put out the Brighton Fire in the second half.

59 minutes: Armstrong exploded on the right, sending Achievement away. Sprinkle wide to the left for Walcott, which takes a touch inside, reaches the edge of the D, and curls hard toward the upper right. 53 minutes: The march from the left intersects. Half of the Saints is clear. Basma takes a contemplative look. He turns left wide, but Welbeck tries to get it into goal. It rings instead. He would have been able to take a second blow on the ball had Connolly not barred the offside, and McCarthy knocked out to claim.

52 minutes: An unsettling moment for Welbeck, who was gripping his shoulder in excruciating pain. He took a huge – but fair – hit at 50-50 with Bednarek. Fortunately, he woke up again soon enough, albeit with a grimace that wrinkled his forehead.

51 minutes: Gross grabs a ball down the left inner channel and hooks to the right for Lamptey, who tries to turn around the over-excited McCarthy, speeding off his streak. Lamptey gets the ball out of play, which relaxes the keeper.

50 minutes: Vestergaard calls up his inner Beckenbauer, skips a couple of challenges down the left and slides the ball to Walcott, which wasn’t a good cross pass and is easy for Ryan to claim. Beautiful run by the central defender of Saints.

48 minutes: The total swings in the free kick from the right. Ings advances in front of Webster, heading over the bar. There’s no angle, though, because Webster was sentenced, somewhat harshly, to throwing an Achievement on the ground while the pair quarreled in the air.

47 minutes: A poor touch in midfield from Romeo allows Connolly, Gros and Mars to go forward. Romeo tries to straighten, chases, but Gross clips to the ankle, accepts a free kick at 25 yards, and gets into the book.

Brighton starts the second half. Some strange sequences could end tonight. The hosts have not won a match against their home fans since last December, when they beat Bournemouth 2-0. Meanwhile, the Saints haven’t won on Monday Night since 2002. If this ends in a tie, I forgot I said anything. But the Saints are looking for victory: they have sent Ings in place of Djenibo.

Brighton was the better team in the first 45, but they failed to challenge Westergaard at the corner and paid the price. It is well prepared for the second half!

Saints did not appear in the attack all evening, but they will level up! Armstrong wins on the right corner. The set pieces were rolled and met with a towering header from Westergaard, who hit the ball in the upper left, giving Ryan any chance.

43 minutes: Welbeck wins a ball he never had and sends Connolly whistling to the left. Welbeck continues to push forward, reaches the area, puts his leg back in order to meet Connolly and shoot home from six yards … but Westergaard Hawkes is clear in time.

42 minutes: Nice spin on the right seam by Armstrong. Swinging along a tightrope, he trades brittleness with Walcott, but then he tries one trick too much and gets in trouble. Shame, because that was such a wonderful skill.

40 minutes: After all this, the Saints are getting a little better, albeit from a low base. Walcott dribbles into the right channel and draws a weak shot across the goalkeeper’s face. On the touchline, Graham Potter leads internationally recognized mime to put some gory effort into it.
