When I was teaching George Orwell’s Animal Farm in school, I couldn’t believe anyone who told me they’d get a modified video game – however, today noon. Orwell’s Animal Farm is a point-and-click game made by the creators of Reigns, alongside Failbetter’s Emily Short. It is based on the 1945 book, which tells a story of farm animals revolting and overthrowing their farms from humans. So, it might not be the most joyful holiday game, but I’m very interested in seeing how well it works as a game.
George Orwell once famously said: “In our time there is no such thing as“ keeping away from politics. ”All issues are political, and politics itself is a collection of lies, quirks, folly, hatred, and schizophrenia, and games are no exception, the developers say. “If we want to mature as art and entertainment, we need to learn to deal with a wider range and more complex topics.”
Animal Farm is an allegorical book criticizing the totalitarian regime of Stalin’s Russia. It’s about getting the animals off their bad skin, and then making all animals equal – that (spoiler) isn’t what really happens.
Unlike the book, the game lets you make choices that can lead to eight different endings. You will need to “set their tasks, manage their resources, choose their laws, and direct their propaganda,” as well as “deciding which animals will make sacrifices and which will be“ more equal than others. ”Like I said, delightful things.
“Video games excel at” what if? ” “Questions,” Short says in a news release. “Our goal was to capture Orwell’s notes in a format that players could explore. We want players to experience different animal perspectives through the choices they make.”
Orwell’s Animal Farm is available on Steam, the Epic Games Store, and Humble for £ 8 / $ 10 / € 10 (although Steam has a 10% off discount until December 17). That’s the same price as the new hardback version, so I’d say it’s a very good deal. You can get it on mobile for iOS and Android as well, if you like.
