The game, created by Polish gaming company CD Projekt Red, comes packed with its fair share of sexual content, which can be switched on in the settings (it plays by default). The game features suggestive content during character creation, such as genital allocation and nudity exposure across various points in the game. This is something Twitch doesn’t usually allow on their platform.
“Nudity and explicit sexual content or activities, such as pornography, sexual acts or intercourse, and sexual services, are prohibited,” according to Twitch Community Guidelines.
However, Twitch makes an exception for Cyberpunk 2077’s streaming software.
A Twitch spokesperson told CNN Business: “Users can play Cyberpunk 2077 on broadcast provided they naturally progress through things like character customization and don’t spend long periods of time focusing on sexual or nudity content.”
Since the game was released earlier this week, several players have shared on Twitter about concerns about the game’s nudity and how it will be handled on Twitch, given the platform’s nudity restrictions. The concerns mirror those previously held by players in the popular video game series The Witcher, also created by CD Projekt Red.
Twitch maintains a list of games banned on its platform, which includes ESRB-rated games for adults only that violate their community guidelines.
For games that have not been blocked, Twitch’s policy states that “When interacting with in-game nudity content or sexual content in a permitted game, users may spend only the time required to progress”. In other words, as long as live broadcasters do not make nudity the focus of game broadcasts, they will not violate this policy. Viewers who fail to comply risk an “enforcement action” against their Twitch account, which could include suspending or banning the account from the platform.
Cyberpunk 2077 currently has nearly 191,000 viewers, making it the fifth highest-viewed game on Twitch.
