The United States Congress supported Joe Biden’s victory in the US presidential election. This means that Biden is now officially the next US president. The endorsement, usually a formality, continued into the night due to the protests and the storming of the Capitol building this time.
One of the most influential endorsements ever by a legally elected U.S. president has finally expired. A special session began on Wednesday evening, during which the Senate and the House of Representatives jointly confirmed the election results in all American states.
Usually this session is a formality in which all results are read country by country and all voters are distributed among the various candidates. This time, however, several Republicans have declared – at President Donald Trump’s request – challenging these results.
The session stopped
That started yesterday with the Arizona results. However, after the Senate and House of Representatives voted, it was rejected. Unfortunately, shortly thereafter, the session had to be halted as Trump supporters stormed the Capitol and entered. The attack lasted for several hours, and at least four people were killed.
After the National Guard finally cleared the terrorists, the Joe Biden support session continued. It was past midnight in the United States after that. At the start of this appeal, Mike Pence, Vice President and Speaker of the Senate, Mitch McConnell, Leader of the Republicans in the Senate, and Chuck Schumer, Leader of the Democrats in the Senate spoke.
Take the oath on January 20
Then the actions continued. But this time, too, there was another hiatus when the Pennsylvania results were challenged. After fresh votes in both the Senate and House of Representatives, Biden can finally be endorsed as the next president of the United States.
In the end, he defeated Donald Trump by 306 to 232. On January 20, Biden will be sworn in as the 46th President of the United States. Trump has just announced that this transfer of power will be “peaceful.”
