New York City Football Club announced today, Monday, that it has replaced defender Chris Gloucester from PSV Eindhoven.
The 20-year-old, born in New Jersey, signed a deal during the 2023 season with the option to extend for two additional seasons.
The NYCFC secured its local priority rights by sending $ 100,000 in public allocation funds to the New York Red Bulls. The Red Bulls receive extra money when Gloster meets certain performance standards.
“It is a great honor to join New York City,” Gloucester said in a statement to the team. “I know a lot about the club and they are a team with a good style of play.” I feel like a perfect fit. I’m happy to be back home and it’s great to have a team to really invest in. I am. Every team that you will learn will learn something new. New York City has something great to offer and I hope I do my best for this club. “
Gloucester went to New York City, Florida, to attend a training camp last week. The team is set to open the MLS regular season at DC United on April 17th.
Gloucester participated in 22 matches for PSV Eindhoven from 2019-2020. Prior to his time in the Netherlands, Gloucester played for German club Hannover 96 in 2018.
Chris is a player. Ronnie Della, the club’s coach, said, “We are very excited to be joining New York City. “He is 20 years old and very much appreciated and has several seasons of experience in Europe in some really good clubs. I enjoy working with young players to maximize their potential and Chris is the one we think can come to us and grow. A very good player.” “
Internationally, Gloucester represented the United States at the youth level and helped his team reach the quarter-finals of the 2017 U-17 World Cup and the 2019 U-20 World Cup.
“We’re excited to welcome Chris to New York City for the 2021 season,” said David Lee, New York City Athletic Director. “He is an exciting young defender with a lot of experience at the international youth level in the United States and has played on two big teams in Europe over the past two and a half years.”
