The United States (United States) wants to tax six countries to impose a digital tax. In practical terms, this tax on digital companies mainly affects US tech giants, and is a thorn in the US government’s side. So Americans want import duties on products from Italy, Austria, Spain, Turkey and the United Kingdom.
Bloomberg reported this based on documents from the United States government. Many tech giants set up their European headquarters in one of the member states of the European Union at an adequate tax rate. All sales from other EU member states are routed through that country, which means that in reality companies pay relatively little taxes. Many countries want to address this method by introducing a national digital tax, as tech giants have to pay tax in the country in which they make sales.
The United States strongly opposes the legislation. Since many of the tech giants are American companies, digital taxes often practically strike American organizations. So the United States has been threatening retaliation against countries that have been imposing a digital tax for some time now. The tariffs that the United States wants to impose could now run to $ 1 billion annually. The rates can be as high as 25 percent. Italian caviar, British handbags and scooters, Spanish makeup, shoes, microwaves and Austrian telescopes, among others, may be subject to additional taxes.
