Cyclist Tom Dumoulin returns to cycling after eight months at the Tour of Switzerland. The Jumbo-Visma rider’s first stage is an individual trial over 10.9 kilometers in Frauenfeld on Sunday.
Dumoulin decided to stop cycling indefinitely in January. He took the time to think and wanted to think carefully about his future. In May, he announced that he would continue his cycling career. He has rediscovered the joy of cycling and expresses his ambition to perform at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Before that, the Limburger will be riding the eight-day Tour de Suisse as a prep race. “It’s a stop on the way to Tokyo and Tom should especially try to pass this course,” said sports director Meryn Zeman of Jumbo Visa. Dumoulin said on Saturday that he is not focused on classification and mainly wants to take the test on both time trials in Switzerland.
Matthew van der Poel is also back on the road in the Swiss stage race. After Touring Flanders last April, the Dutch champion focused on mountain biking. In this field, he wants to compete for medals at the Games in Tokyo.
