    1. How much did sugar cost?

The Dutch movie “Hoe Duur was de Suiker” is set in the former Suriname in 1747. The film is based on the successful novel by Cynthia MacLeod and tells the compelling story of two young women named Sarith and her slave Minnie Minnie, played by Jait Jansen. and Yutha Wong-Loy-Singh. In the movie, Sarith becomes unhappy due to the difficult life in the colony. However, Mini-Mini finally got a chance to live a happy life away from their masters and a brutal life as a slave. But do you dare to seize the opportunity?

The film was written and directed by Jan van de Velde. In Hoe Duur Can de Suiker, you can get a clear look at what was happening in colonial Suriname and how the people of Suriname were treated cruelly during this time of slavery.

    2. Tula: The Revolution

In the film Tula: The Revolt, you watch the story of the leader of Curaçao’s largest slave rebellion in 1795. At the time, the island was a Dutch colony, as the Tula slave became increasingly aware of the inequality of his people and that of white people, the oppressors. It calls for the abolition of slavery. He does not hear about this from the owner of his farm, but from his people. Soon his people join him in calling for the equality of black and white, as a fierce struggle soon ensues between the population.

The film’s cast includes Obi Abele, Natalie Simpson, Jeron Willems, and Jeron Krabi. The film is directed by Jeroen Linders.

    3. Underground railways

Although the first two films above are about slavery based on the colonial past of the Netherlands, The Underground Railroad series is about the history of slavery in the United States and is based on the book of the same name by writer Colson Whitehead. This series is now available on Amazon Prime Video.

The series tells the story of Cora, a slave who wants to escape from the southern United States. To do this, she is looking for the organization The Underground Railroad. However, I soon learned that Underground Railroad is actually a railroad and not an organization that helps people escape (contrary to what it really was). With the help of her people, she is still trying to escape from the dangerous south.

Actors include Thoso Mbedo, Joel Edgerton, Amber Gray and Craig Dane. The series is directed by Barry Jenkins.

    4. 12 years a slave

The thrilling American slavery film 12 Years a Slave tells the true story of Solomon Northup, who was kidnapped as a free man and sold as slaves. He soon finds himself in harsh conditions, where he is treated cruelly. As a result, Solomon finds it difficult to survive until, in his twelfth year as a slave, he meets a Canadian opponent of slavery that completely changes his life.

The film’s cast includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, Dwight Henry and Brian Butt. 12 Years a Slave directed by Steve McQueen.

    5. Harriet

Also known as the face of American militants, Harriet Tubman is one of the greatest American heroes to date. In Harriet’s film, we can see the inspiring life of a woman, as we see the story of her escape as a slave and where her courage and perseverance freed hundreds of slaves, changing the whole of history.
