Ruth Winder will soon retire as a cyclist. The only 28-year-old American, winner of this year’s Brabantsi Beagle, feels it is time to stop. “I’ve been touring with the idea of ​​quitting smoking for several years,” said Winder.

Winder began her career in 2014 with UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling and was selected by Trek-Segafredo after three seasons. The rider managed to win a stage at the Giro Don in her career, crowned the final winner of the Tour Down Under last year and was the best in the Brabantse Beagle last spring. She also became the US Road Champion in 2019.

I lived two different lives. I was a cyclist in Europe on the one hand and a family person in the United States on the other. I now want to continue being a non-cyclist.”

The American won’t quite say goodbye to cycling. “I hope to stay involved in the sport. We have a very good junior program in Boulder (where Winder, editor) lives. I would like to pass on my knowledge to a new generation. I also want to do something with the training and will now focus more on gravel racing.”
