The US will begin evacuating Afghans who assisted the US military in the last week of July. This was announced by a senior US official on Wednesday.

She added that Washington had launched an operation “to help resettle Afghans who helped the United States and its allies.” Eligible Afghans who have submitted a special visa application can be accommodated with their family members. The official notes that it was a promise from US President Joe Biden.

“Flights from Afghanistan will start in the last week of July for candidates who have already registered in the special visa programme,” the official added.

More detailed information about the time and destination of the flights could not be revealed. It’s also not clear how many people use this procedure.

US forces plan to complete their withdrawal from Afghanistan by the end of August. The planned departure caused great concern among the interpreters and other Afghans who helped the US military. They fear Taliban retaliation.
