Then came the delta variable. Although their country has been largely closed, the virus has made its way through. When it arrived, it spread quickly. In the summer, South Korea faced the worst epidemic. Hospitals in Indonesia have oxygen and beds; In Thailand, health workers had to refer patients.

As cases increase, states are rapidly changing their vaccine approach.

Sydney, Australia announced the lockdown in June after an unprotected limousine driver was caught using a Delta type by the US Air Force. Subsequently, Prime Minister Scott Morrison, who previously said a vaccine was “not a race”, called on Australia in July to “look for gold” in the country’s vaccination movement.

Move to address supply shortages with slow regulators approval. In August, Australia purchased 1 million doses of Pfizer from Poland; this month, mr. Morrison announced the purchase of 1 million Moderna monitors from Europe.

When the Delta eruption occurred, less than 25 percent of Australians over the age of 16 received an injection. In the state of New South Wales, which includes Sydney, 86 percent of adults received their first dose and 62 percent of adults were fully vaccinated. The country expects that 80 percent of the population over the age of 16 will be fully vaccinated by early November.

“There has been great leadership in the community – there have been people from the political establishment supporting the vaccine,” said Greg Dorey, an epidemiologist at the University of New South Wales. “It really helped us get back into a state of indecision.”

Many governments have used incentives to promote vaccines.

In South Korea, authorities relaxed restrictions on private gatherings of fully vaccinated individuals in August, allowing others to gather in large groups while maintaining strict controls. Singapore, where 82 percent of the population is fully vaccinated, has previously announced similar measures.

The researchers there also analyzed the pockets of people who refused to vaccinate and tried to persuade them.
