Cycling World Championships with Matthew van der Poel and Tom Bidcock

Matthew van der Paul and Tom Bidcock have the 2022 Cyclo-cross World Championship in Fayetteville (US) on their programme. Their team told us Alpecin-Fenix and INEOS Grenadiers latest news. Wout van Aert does not yet know if he will lead the world championship.
“It hasn’t been discussed yet, for the simple reason that we’re assuming we’ll be riding the World Cup with Mathieu,” says Christoph Rudhoft, Alpecin-Fenix’s sporting director. “I don’t really understand why we should give it up. Sure, it’s a bit of an ambitious move. But I don’t feel like Matthew has really reached a point in his career where he can omit these things.” […] At the moment, cancellation is not on the agenda.”
Tom Bidcock
His coach Kurt Bogarts has confirmed that Bidcock will also be there on January 30, 2022 in the United States. “With life and luxury, Tom rides the World Cup because we consider it an international sport and a young rider like him has to be able to handle the conditions. Of course it is easier to combine the Cycling World Championships in Belgium with a classic spring on the road rather than the World Championships in the USA,” says Bogarts. It’s definitely part of it.
“Tom is also well aware that cyclocross has brought him to his current level. So he shows respect for that sport. And for the competition it is practiced all winter. It would raise the level of discipline if Wout, Mathieu and Tom started in Fayetteville,” says the INEOS coach . Bidcock is expected to enter the field for the first time on the weekends of December 4 (Boom) and December 5 (Antwerp).
Wout van Aert
For Wout van Aert, the classic spring is a big goal in 2022. Jumbo-Visma has greatly boosted the team and wants to score, but his exact schedule is not yet known. “We will really need the next couple of months to come up with concrete, well-defined plans. We will make the final decisions about his cycling activity very soon,” sporting director Meren Zeeman said. Then it will be clear if Van Aert will travel to America and play in the World Cup.
