The Directorate of Culture of the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture, through the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) of the Paramaribo Urban Rehabilitation Program (PURP), signed the contract last Tuesday to develop a parking policy in the historic center of Paramaribo. .
This activity is one of several initiatives at PURP to revive and redesign the inner city. In addition to beautifying Waterkant and other venues, restoring government buildings and updating the building code, a public-private partnership feasibility study for the parking management system will now also be studied. The results of this study will lead to policy advice for the government to implement during the PURP process. The search area is located between Zwartenhovenbrugstraat, Stoelmanstraat, Van Sommelsdijck creek and Waterkant.
The study will be conducted by the consultancy firm Multicriteri-MCRIT AIE, based in Barcelona, Spain. Local engineering firm ILACO Suriname NV will support this consultancy as a subcontractor.
PURP is funded by a loan from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). The aim of the program is to contribute to the social and economic revival of the historic center of Paramaribo.
