Hurricane Ida reached the southern coast of the United States, with winds up to 250 kilometers per hour. The big question is whether the damage the storm will do will be similar to that after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Since then, several Dutch companies have helped make New Orleans more hurricane-resistant. Ida will show the effect he had. “The city itself is now safe, but outside it is dangerous.”

As a result of levee violations, New Orleans was submerged by about 80 percent after Hurricane Katrina. It demonstrated the need for good water management in the city, which is partly below sea level. Several Dutch companies came to the rescue to work on better protection against rising waters. Sixteen years after Hurricane Katrina, the city should now be able to cope better.
