Computer scientist Craig Wright, who claims to be the inventor of bitcoin, has won a civil lawsuit against the company of his deceased former business partner, who claimed he owed him half of bitcoin worth more than $50 billion.
The court ruling means that Wright can hold all 1.1 million bitcoins, writes Cnet and reports Zimo.
David Clayman, a friend and partner of Wright who died in 2013, claimed in court that the two created bitcoin together.
Although Wright can keep his bitcoin treasury, the court ruled that he must pay $100 million in compensation for unpaid intellectual property to W&K Information Defense Research, a joint venture founded by Klayman and Wright.
Wright has been claiming for years to be Satoshi Nakamoto, which is actually the pseudonym of the mysterious creator of the world’s most famous cryptocurrency – Bitcoin.
1.1 million bitcoins are among the first bitcoins to be earned through cryptocurrency mining, and experts claim that anyone who has been involved in bitcoins from the start will definitely have access to a digital wallet containing the aforementioned bitcoin treasury, which is valued at about 54 billion dollars.
However, the issue of Nakamoto’s true identity was not determined at the trial, and both sides claimed that Wright was partially or fully responsible for the creation of bitcoin.
However, Wright will still have access to the aforementioned digital wallet containing 1.1 million bitcoins, which will in fact be practical and forever proof that he is Satoshi Nakamoto.
W&K Information Defense Research attorneys are satisfied with the judgment and the $100 million in damages.
