It sounds like an April Fools’ Day joke, but it’s the truth: TikTok will open hundreds of takeaways where you can order viral food from TikTok videos. It’s called TikTok Kitchen and it’s a collaboration with Grubhub and Virtual Dining Concepts. However, it’s not a hypothetical experiment: Americans will soon be able to order those pasta chips.
Food Lifehack
In principle, the idea is not that crazy: you want to get more money from food that goes viral. At the same time, these videos are very good because they feature dishes that are really easy to make at home, so the whole idea of many of these foods is negated by making them orderable.
Bloomberg writes that TikTok will have as many as 300 delivery sites at launch, and then another 1,000 by the end of 2022. That’s a lot, but it can leverage the Grubhub network, which is very useful in creating this brutal project. So the existing restaurants (takeaway) are used. The menu is the same everywhere: fried feta pasta, corn spare ribs, smash burger (prepared by crushing a ball of ground beef) and pasta chips. If there are new foods on the social medium, they will be added to the list.
Viral food on TikTok
If you want to become famous on TikTok, the best thing to do is try to make something based on what’s going on in your kitchen cabinets. TikTok plans to use a portion of the revenue from its new food branch to pay creators for their good idea. That in and of itself is pretty friendly, but people are wondering if TikTok isn’t just throwing in a late April 1st joke. It seems completely illogical because you should be able to easily make these recipes at home.
Additionally, you may be wondering how it will keep track of who came up with a particular recipe. Baked feta pasta is a great example of something TikTok won’t have to spend any money on: It didn’t go viral on TikTok in the first place, but on Instagram. Later, others reached the Chinese social milieu. But TikTok also has a public creation fund, so it can choose to invest money in it as well.
A new madness within the social milieu
In addition, it can also be a golden fist on TikTok, something that is also spreading. After all, it is very popular on social media to show what you can buy. The idea that you’ll soon be able to use TikTok food in your TikTok videos may spark a whole new frenzy. Whether it’s a marketing ploy or not, TikTok will likely not only make a lot of money through this, but it could also lead to more brand awareness than it already has.
YouTuber MrBeast’s MrBeast Burger has also proven that it’s possible. Its burgers were sold in North America and the UK, selling over a million in just a few months. Like hot cakes! As far as we know, this concept was only planned in the US, so we just have to bike to the supermarket and turn on the air fryer to try these sometimes weird dishes for ourselves.
