RUCPHEN – Sheeren Van Aneroy finished second on Sunday in Rucphen during the National Championship of Promises. On the last lap, Wim van Impel walked away from her.
The U23 race was held at the same time as the elite women’s race. Theoretically, one of the promises could become a Dutch all-around champion or ascend to the podium with the elite, but this did not happen. Van Enroge finished fifth in the overall standings, well behind winner Marian Voss.
At Rucphen, which also recently hosted the World Cup competition and then captured the Dutch national championships from Zaltbommel, Marian Voss and Lucinda Brand left early. Behind her arose a group with Sherine Van Anroe and Wim Van Impel. Their rival Puck Pieterse had already pulled out due to some flop.
On the final lap, the two nineteen-year-olds broke up with a few elite women after an excellent, almost obvious race. In the end, World Champion (Van Impel) was 51 seconds behind Voss and reigning European Champion (Van Anroweg) 53. This gap occurred after the last corner because Van Anroy’s streak “turned”, so she wasn’t able to run.
For Kapelse, there are three more important races coming into the winter season. The next two weekends, the World Cup Finals will be held in Flamanville (Fra) and Hoogerheide. She wants to keep her fifth place in the standings. The World Cup will take place in the United States at the last weekend of January.
