The gold medal for speed skater Erin Schuten in the 5000 meters did not prevent the Netherlands from falling off the medal standings at the Olympic Games in Beijing. TeamNL successfully passed Sweden, but saw the United States pass (three gold medals) and Austria (twice). After the sixth day, the Netherlands finished fifth with four gold, three silver and one bronze.
Thanks to the team’s gold medal, Germany maintained the lead in the race with six gold and three silver. The Norwegians held onto the second place with five gold medals. Cross-country skier Therese Johaug won her second gold medal in the 10km distance at these Games.

Austria moved up to third place. Alpine skier Johannes Strolls with gold in combination and snowboarder Alssandro Hämmerle, who was the best on the cross, were responsible for this. The United States even managed to add three gold medals: figure skating star Chloe Kim in Half Pipe, mixed team air skaters and snowboarder Nathan Chen.
Austria now has the most medals with a total of thirteen slides (4-5-4). Norway and Canada each have twelve. Because the Canadians have just won one event, they are only 12th in the ranking determined by the number of gold medals.
