Aston Martin boss Mike Krake wants to forget about the weekend in Australia as soon as possible. With so many crashes for Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll it was an expensive weekend, which didn’t make a point: “It was a disappointing ending”.
It was a disastrous weekend for Aston Martin in Melbourne. Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll both crashed in the third free practice session, after which Stroll had another notable crash with compatriot Nicholas Latifi in qualifying. And so the tone was set for the race that was destined to be forgotten by Aston Martin. Vettel rolled the AMR22 and parked it into the wall on lap 23 while Stroll, who received a time penalty for swinging it on the straight, finished out on points.

“We had a disappointing end to the weekend to forget,” said Aston Martin Team Principal Mike Crack at the Australian Grand Prix. “Sebastian had a crash in Turn 4 and was taken to the medical center as a precaution, luckily he is fine. The strategy team responded cleverly to the safety car which Sainz caused by bringing Lance twice as fast.”
“He started on the hard tire, which we expected to be better in the race than averages,” Crack continues. “So we gave him one lap on the middle before putting him back on the hard tire. At one point we hoped the strategy would help him get the points, but in the end it didn’t.”

Crack knows it will be hard work once again at the factory in Silverstone. “We will work even harder to prepare for Imola, where we want and expect to have a better race.”
