pregnant – This weekend, the Italian Grand Prix at Imola has been included in the programme. The race will start at 3:00 PM on Sunday, April 24th.
Last year, you could watch Formula 1 for free via Ziggo on Channel 14. That is no longer possible. F1 rights have been transferred to Viaplay. A subscription to this streaming service costs €13.99 per month.
Fortunately, there are ways to watch Formula 1 qualifiers and the race for free.
We list the four best methods:
1. Use a VPN
Formula 1 is broadcast for free and legally in a number of European countries. With a VPN, you can access these high-quality streaming services.
It actually works very simple: with a VPN, you exchange your IP address from the Netherlands with an IP address from another country, for example Austria, Luxembourg or the United States. This allows you to access only locally available content. With the VPN enabled, you can watch the official live stream for free, for example on your laptop, phone or TV.
Check this tutorial if you want to know exactly what you need to do to use a VPN. It also contains an overview of which streams are working best at the moment.
Not happy with your VPN? You can request a refund within 30 days, without giving a specific reason. In fact, you have a free VPN at your disposal for 30 days (more info here).
2. Watch Viaplay for free (temporarily)
If you get a new subscription with a TV provider, for example KPN or T-Mobile, you will sometimes get a few months of free Viaplay with your package. This might be interesting in the short term, but it could still be costly in the long run.
Another option is to deliver a ride (for free) on a Viaplay subscription to a friend or family member. Account sharing is allowed. You can then watch on two devices at the same time.
3. Search the coffee shop
You can watch Formula 1 for free in many cafes. Bar owners often buy the TV rights with a commercial subscription. In big cities you will often find special sports bars to follow the race live.
It will cost you a beer or two at most.
4. Watch free TV broadcasts
A number of Formula 1 races are broadcast for free on Dutch television, for example via German NOS or RTL. Check in your TV guide what channels are available on these channels.
Finally, you can view comprehensive summaries of Formula 1 via the Ziggo sports channel.
