The KNHB hockey league regretted the way the post-competition ended in the hall on Sunday. In the women’s match between Blomendale and Laren, the two teams in the final stage, with a score of 4-3, decided to let the clock run out without continuing to play. Both teams had enough to stay in the main division.
From the stands in The Hague, Ring Pass hockey players watched in amazement Bloemendaal and Laren players stood on the field for 1.5 minutes without touching the ball. “Unsportsmanlike!” the crowd shouted. Blumendale won 4-3 to relegate the Ring Pass.
“The Dutch National Football Association regrets the conduct of events during the match between Blumendale and Laren and was in contact with Ring Pass,” a spokeswoman for the federation said. “Unfortunately, history has shown – not only in hockey, but also in other sports – that it is very difficult to prevent this through regulation.”
