According to the police, the teachers arrived at their accommodation in the nearby district of Heuberg with the youngsters (aged 12-14) from the German city of Ludwigshafen in the afternoon. Since the weather was nice at the time, the teachers immediately decided to take the young people for a walk through Kleinwalsertal, a popular hiking area.
The group followed a path that the teacher found on the Internet. It passed over the Heuberggrat, a trail that was advertised as a good hiking trail. In fact, the route included several climbing passes that required some experience.
The rain made the road slippery, and due to the lack of good shoes, the group decided to head back. The Taliban slipped and were slightly wounded. When panic arose among the students, the teachers decided to call the emergency services. Fortunately, two helicopters were provided to take the students to safety. Those were transported from the mountain in groups of three people. “You can count how many times I’ve had to fly,” a spokesman for the rescue service told German media.
On their return, the crisis team was present to receive the exhausted and hypothermic students.
