New local council members will be appointed next Wednesday. The final hurdle has now been overcome by the Berenschot Report by Integrity Risk Analysis, which also gives the green light to 77-year-old Van Rey.
A few years ago, Van Ree was sentenced to one year in prison for corruption and electoral fraud. He was also not allowed to work as a consultant for several years. This comment has now expired.
The municipality of Roermond put a summary of the Bureau Berenschot report online on Wednesday. It states, among other things, that safety hazards have been identified. Who is not mentioned in the summary. The agency says it makes recommendations on how to deal with these risks in order to prevent them. What these risks consist of is also not mentioned in the published abstract.
Resignation on suspicion of fraud
Van Rey is likely to be inaugurated next Wednesday, after he resigned as VVD alderman ten years ago over suspected fraud, among other things. Because the VVD brought him down, Van Ray founded the Roermond People’s Liberal Party (LVR) with the Allies.
For eight years, Roermond’s main parties maintained a sanitary cordon around the LVR, as the former Van Rey was a suspect and later convicted of fraud. This exclusion has ended since the last election. LVR scored a big electoral victory, after which GroenLinks and VVD picked whites for their money and announced that they still wanted to do business with LVR.
LVR wants to supply two council members, the other coalition parties GroenLinks, PvdA and VVD, one each. Bernchot’s office wrote that a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG) has been issued to all candidates for the position of Alderman.
