The International Tennis Federation (ITF) today held the draw for the final round of the Billie Jean King Cup, the former Federation Cup. The Belgians will meet the 7-time winner Australia in November in Glasgow, Scotland, as in 2021, and Slovakia.
The 12 qualifying nations are divided into 4 groups of 3 teams, and the 4 winners advance to the semi-finals.
Belgium qualified for the final tournament without playing. The Belgian women’s team should have played in a jump against Belarus. Because that country was suspended by the ITF for supporting neighboring Russia in invading Ukraine, Belgium received the final ticket.
Last year, the Belgian women were killed in the group stage of the Billie Jean King Cup. They defeated Belarus in their first group match, but then lost to Australia and missed the semi-finals.
Defending champion Russia was also not allowed to participate this year due to the invasion of Ukraine.
The Billie Jean King Cup will take place from 8 to 13 November at the Emirates Stadium in Glasgow.
The four groups in the last round:
- Group A: Switzerland, Canada, Italy
- Group B: Australia, Slovakia, Belgium
- Group C: Spain, Kazakhstan, Great Britain
- Group D: Czech Republic, United States, Poland
