Pole vaulter Mino Flon reached the World Cup final for the first time in his Friday-Saturday night career. In the 4x100m relay, the Dutch teams were disappointed at Hayward Field in Eugene.
The 28-year-old Flon was one of twelve athletes who managed to beat the 5.75-meter height in qualifying. He reached this height on his third attempt.
At the Games in Tokyo last year, Flon also reached the final, but it went wrong. He couldn’t do anything in the final battle because of an extremely light stick.
The other Dutchman in the pole vault qualifiers was Ratger Kopelar and he did not succeed. Koppelaar faltered at 5.65 and finished in thirteenth. The Pole Vault Final takes place on Sunday, the last day of the World Cup.
Rutger Kopillar finished 13th in the playoffs and was eliminated.
The relay teams will miss the final
In the 4×100-meter relay, both Dutch men and women could not pass this series. The women finished sixth in their career at Hayward Field in Eugene, as did the men.
The first and second number of each series passed, the two fastest times and neither of the Dutch teams came close.
A few years ago, women were top of the world, and the European title in 2016 was the highlight. Due to the setback of Daphne Schippers and to a lesser extent Jamil Samuel, the team is no longer as strong as it once was.
Samuel and Schippers are not in the World Cup, while Nadine Visser can’t combine the 4x100m and 100m hurdles.
The Dutch team in Eugene consisted of Andrea Puma, Minky Bishops and sisters Zoe and Naomi Sidney. They scored 43.46, while the US was the fastest in the series with 41.56. The Netherlands scored the thirteenth time out of a total of sixteen countries.
Joy among the Italian women who qualified for the final.

The Dutch men were no better. Quartet Hensley Paulina, Timir Burnett, Joris van Goul and Rafael Pogo finished sixth in their qualifying at 39.07. Rotinier-Churandi-Martina was not selected for the World Cup.
The US was also the fastest in the series among men, with a time of 37.87. The American team included Noah Lyles, who became the world 200m champion in Eugene, and Christian Coleman, the 2019 world 100m champion.
The 4x100m final is on the program for both men and women on Saturday.
Marvin Prause was the last US superstar team tour.
