Setback for starting position in Utrecht: Although the big third round of the cycling year was initially on his roster, Tadej Pogacar allowed Team Vuelta a España to run through next month.
The 23-year-old Slovenian starts from Team Emirates on Saturday in the Clasica San Sebastian and then takes a break that will last until the end of August. In the fall, he will focus on the World Championships in Australia and the Tour of Lombardy, which he won last year.
For Bogacar, who arrived in Paris in second place after two Tour de France last Sunday, behind Jonas Weinggaard, his Tour de Spain count is still one at the moment. In 2019, he finished third behind compatriot Primoz Roglic and Spaniard Alejandro Valverde.
The Vuelta kicks off on Friday 19 August with a team time trial with start and finish in the Jaarbeurs, followed by two more stages on Dutch soil before the caravan departs for Spain.
