soft ballWith four Tex Town Tiger players in the ranks, Team Orange won the European title on Saturday. England were defeated 7-0 in the final in Sainte-Boy, Spain. Brett Funk, Animek Janssen, Dennett Osting and Laura Wessink were at the base of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Two other Tex Town Tigers players, Lindsey Meadows and Lizzy Clarijs, did not play in the final battle.
The Netherlands have lost the last two European Championship finals to Italy and have been waiting for their eleventh European title since 2017. This time Great Britain was the opponent in the final battle and the British were the favourites. In the run-up to the final, the orange had already been lost 5-0 by the English. Especially because of the strong appetite of Georgina Couric. Couric, who was born in England but is active in the NBA, left the Orange team without a chance in the first game.
In the final, the players of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, made up mainly of players from TTT and Olympia, had better control of the Corrick balls. Brett Funk led the Orange team with three goals in the first half. This was not a point then.
In the third inning, the orange hit the scoreboard. Dinet Oosting doubled to score three runs. Orange were freed from Nir Couric and Damisha Charles, Jesse Van Aalst and again Dennett Osting got four more Dutch points.
Lizzy Calrijs remained on the bench throughout the match with Orange, and Lindsey Meadows was injured in Game Three of the tournament. The American-born Dutchman got a ball full in his face and had to leave the field in an ambulance. It remains to be seen if Meadows will be available again when competition resumes in the Netherlands. TTT, the league leaders, will play at home against Neptunus on Saturday, August 6.
