The number of Belgian company branches in the Netherlands increased by 34 percent in five years. Most of the Belgian multinationals can be found in Brabant and the western province ranks first with 350 branches. This was reported by the Central Bureau of Statistics.
There are also many Belgian companies in the rest of the province:
- Central Brabant: 125 branches,
- North East Brabant: 125 branches,
- South East Brabant 215 Branch.
The companies are mainly active in:
- wholesale,
- commercial brokerage (broking),
- retail markets),
- IT services.
Belgium ranks fourth in the list of foreign multinationals in the Netherlands, after the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom. Companies from those countries are mainly located in the Randstad region.
The number of foreign multinationals in the Netherlands increased by about 15 percent between 2015 and 2020. Thus, the 34 percent increase for Belgian companies (1,138 branches up to 1528) is much higher. Belgian companies contributed 4.6 billion euros to the Dutch economy, double what they contributed 2.5 billion euros in 2015.
The number of employees in Belgian companies increased nationwide from 31,000 to 50,000.
