Ninky Brinkman is still successful. The athlete achieved the overall victory in the Golden Trail World Championships on Saturday in the Portuguese island of Madeira. The 29-year-old long-distance specialist won the fourth of the five races that make up the final of the competition series. Trail running takes place on unpaved and often challenging trails, usually in mountainous areas.
This summer, Brinkmann became the first Dutch athlete to win a marathon medal at the European Athletics Championships. She won bronze in the 42.195 km race in Munich.
This spring she improved the Dutch record for Lorna Kiplagat in the Rotterdam Marathon, setting it at 2.22.51.
The former hockey star, who lives and works in Switzerland, combines road running with running. Brinkman is one of the best players in the world in this discipline. It has already won three “Classics” this year, Zigama (Spain), Bix Peak Ascent (US) and Flagstaff Sky Peaks (US).
The final in Madeira consisted of five races in five days. The total distance is 105 kilometers.
