Things went right with Murray for a while, but during the last Grand Slam of the year in the US, round three was the last stop. After that, the Briton played tournaments in Gijon, Basel and Paris, but only three matches were won there.
“I’ve been pretty gloomy these past few months,” Murray said. Evening Standard. “The last seven or eight tournaments I’ve had cramps and I’ve never had such a persistent problem before. So I’m very disappointed.”
“I can deal with losing a tennis match because it’s a tough sport and sometimes you don’t perform as well as you’d like. But there are no excuses when your body fails,” said Murray, sternly.

According to Murray, a lot needs to change in the coming months: “If you look back at the past four or five months, I haven’t done enough to compete at this level. And I have to change that if I want to get back to the top of my ability.”
Nevertheless, the Briton is confident about the year ahead: “I am looking positively at the next season and the work I have to do. I have to empty the tank completely in the gym and the training track in the next six to eight weeks.”

higher goals
Murray has yet to distance himself from his top goals: “I was 130th in the world at the start of the season and now I’m in the top 50. For most players, this is a very positive year. It’s not like that, but I’ve made progress.”
“There is no guarantee that I would have won those matches had I not had cramps, but I think I could have progressed further in the tournaments,” said the three-time Grand Slam winner.
Murray was finally able to play injury-free again this year and that is why he played as much as he could: “I played many tournaments from Wimbledon until the end of the season. I didn’t handle that well, but there were no long-term injuries like previous years.”
The future of British tennis
Murray also spoke about the future of British tennis, which looks good with good players such as Emma Raducano, Cameron Norrie, Dan Evans and Jack Draper. Murray is pleased to finally have a successor, having had to carry British tennis for years on his own.
The veteran is particularly excited about Jack Draper: “Jack has huge potential and has only played on the tour for six or seven months. I was fortunate enough to train with him. The future is smiling on him and so is Emma Raducano. In addition, there are also a few young talents among the Women who are very passionate about coaches.”
