It is now clear to everyone that countries can vary greatly in terms of salary. But which countries have the highest average salary? Let’s take a look at the top 10 average salaries in the world.
Top 10 countries with the highest average salary
Earlier we discussed the minimum and highest wages in the world, with the Netherlands ranked third. Although in the Netherlands we are not number 1, we certainly can’t complain this time either. Something we’re good at. The average salary in our country is $3,494 – the equivalent of €3,214. This puts us in ninth place on the list. Not the loudest place, but we’re not doing anything bad at all.
Most of the countries on this list are western, with the exception of three. The UAE is just above the Netherlands, with an average salary of at least $3,498. Small difference, but nevertheless the country got the 8th place. In addition, Singapore and Qatar also come in the top ten: Qatar is in sixth place with $3,982 and Singapore is in third place with $4,989. They do it better than we do.
But who is number one on this list? That title goes to Switzerland, with an incredible median salary of $6,096. In second place, we find Luxembourg with a value of $5,015. The United States is also on this list, with an average salary of $4,245.
Here are the full 10 best:
- Switzerland: $6,096
- Luxembourg: $5,015
- Singapore: $4,989
- United States: $4,245
- Iceland: $4,007
- Qatar: 3982 dollars
- Denmark: $3,538
- United Arab Emirates: $3,498
- Netherlands: $3,494
- Australia: $3,391
Lowest average salary in the world
In addition to this impressive top ten, there are also countries that earn much less on average. Average monthly salaries are particularly low in countries in Asia and Africa, where people earn less than $500. Although there is a distinct difference in wealth between these countries, a high average salary does not always mean that one country is doing better than another.
For example, in the United States there are larger gaps between the rich and the poor, with many rich people earning very high wages, but also many people earning the minimum wage, which is only $1,550 per month. The average monthly salary of a country gives a good indication, but there is no guarantee that there will be no poverty or very low wages.
This is why in the Netherlands – with a high minimum wage and a high average monthly salary – we don’t do it badly.
