A passenger fell overboard on the world’s largest cruise ship this week. It was announced on Saturday that the suspect was a 19-year-old university student from the US state of Washington, who was on vacation with his friends.
Sigmund Robich, known to his loved ones as “Boyboy,” boarded Royal Caribbean’s “Wonder of the Seas” ship from Port Canaveral, Florida, on Sunday, August 27, for a seven-day cruise with friends when he found himself off the coast of the United States. His sister, Savannah, told the newspaper that Cuba would have fallen into the water New York Post.
It is unclear how the boy ended up in the water and how long he spent in the water before the search began. “He’s a rather shy boy and he always acted cool and collected,” she said. “He is a son, big brother, little brother, cousin, uncle, friend, roommate, classmate, colleague and neighbour,” the shocked sister wrote on Facebook. “I want nothing more than for my brother to come home.”
No sign of life has been heard from the boy for three days. “Cuban officials have told us they have stopped searching the ocean. They are only monitoring the coast. I highly doubt they will end this search completely,” Savannah said.
Search stopped
The Rubicz family received little information about Siegmund’s disappearance. Royal Caribbean declined to say how long the ship’s crew searched for the boy. Blog records show that rescuers searched the sea using searchlights and small craft for about three hours before the ship continued its journey.
Savannah made an emotional plea to continue searching for her brother. “We need answers. Please make sure we can bring him home! Please, he has barely started his life.
Royal Caribbean previously said it cooperated with the US Coast Guard in the search, but the military confirmed otherwise the post Search and rescue responsibilities are Cuban.
