Although Martin van der Weyden has just started the Eleven Cities Triathlon, in which he will raise money for cancer research by swimming, cycling and walking, he already has his sights set on a new challenge. Today, during his swim, Van der Weyden announced his desire to participate in all 32 sports for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
Van der Weyden had spent another hour swimming this early morning when Omrup Frieslan decided to give an interview to “The Tree from Alkmaar”. While Van der Weyden was doing the front crawl, a microphone was held under his nose and he was asked what he would do after the Eleven Cities Triathlon to raise money for cancer research. “Summer Games, Paris,” says Van der Weyden, gasping for air. “All 32 sports. Lots of medals means lots of money. Important!”
Sports psychologists believe that Van der Weyden certainly has what it takes to perform in 32 sports next year as a representative of the Netherlands, but they also stated that Van der Weyden will have to prepare well and will have to implement a strict sporting schedule once his assignment is completed. Eleven City Triathlon finished. In addition to swimming, Van der Weijden will have to master equestrian sports, fencing, taekwondo and skiing, among others.
Since Van der Weijden seemed a bit tired and Omrop Fryslân did not receive satisfactory answers to all their questions, it was decided to end the interview after 45 minutes. So it remains unclear what van der Weyden really thought about the modern pentatonic. It also remains a guess whether Van der Weijden actually has golf, wrestling and breakdancing experience.
