Willemstad – For the seventh time in a row, this year begins the 48 Hours Film Project Curaçao, a short film competition for both amateur and professional filmmakers. Participants are competing for a place in the international tour, which will be held in Lisbon next year. The intense competition will take place on the weekend of October 20-22.
In 2001, the concept of the “48 Hour Film Project” was born in Washington, USA. Within this project, participants form a team to write, shoot and edit a short film in just one weekend. Each film should be 5 to 7 minutes long. Additionally, teams must incorporate certain elements, such as prop, character, and line, into their films, and each team is assigned a specific genre.
On October 26, all films will be screened at The Movies Otrobanda, followed by an awards ceremony. After this date, audience can also watch films at The Movies Punda.
The winning film will represent Curaçao in March 2024 at the Filmapalooza Film Festival in Lisbon. Here the film competes with winners from more than two hundred cities around the world. Thanks to local sponsors, the winning team will have the opportunity to attend the festival.
This year, Melissa Verbuquet of Action Caribbean BV and Bert Angenendt took over organizational duties from Ramses Petronia. Verbuquet stresses that the competition provides a unique international stage for Curacao’s talent. Participation in the project is still possible, and interested parties can register via the website 48hourfilm.com/curacao.
