The bitter rivalry between Ajax and Feyenoord – who defeated Celtic 2-0 in the Champions League last week – erupted after fans of the home team threw firecrackers and firecrackers at the Johan Cruyff Arena while the Amsterdam club were 3-0 down at the time.
The match was abandoned in the 58th minute and Ajax were set to suffer a major defeat due to further post-match clashes and fans trying to return to the stadium.
Former Ajax and Netherlands coach and Euro 88 champion, Van Basten, who also won the European Cup twice with Milan, had a radical solution to the Dutch problems with fans.
He said: “This is the worst possible scenario. I say frankly that we should leave professional football in the Netherlands. Stop it.”
“It’s intentional and I have no idea why. Did they think this would change the outcome of the game?
“If we can’t find a solution, we will stop playing football. Just say it’s not possible because of these people.
“I can’t think about these idiots. We were all supposed to be happy when the coronavirus was over and we had full stadiums again, but then this happened.
“We all knew something like this would happen. It was intentional. Just stop the football.”
Meanwhile, Jota’s move from Celtic to Saudi Arabia is said to be under investigation.
Reports in the Middle East claim that the Etihad will take an internal look at the £25m deal.

The Portuguese winger moved from the Scottish champions to the Saudi Professional League in June.
However, the big money life-changing move didn’t work out for the 24-year-old.
He has been left out of the Al-Ittihad first team squad for the upcoming domestic season and is now stuck with the prospect of sitting on the sidelines and not playing football until January.
He will reportedly consider seeking a mutual termination of his contract as a result, and has consequently played just 133 minutes of football for his new team since joining.
