The European Union and the Government of the Netherlands have expressed their commitment to supporting Nigeria “to create job opportunities for its growing young population as a means of eliminating poverty, unemployment and irregular migration.”
A statement issued on Sunday said that the Nigerian Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betty Edo, obtained these commitments during a meeting in The Hague, Netherlands.
According to the statement, the meeting was attended by Director General of International Development at the European Union Commission, Erika Gerstsen. Minister of Justice and Minister of Security of the Netherlands; Secretary General of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Paul Hoijts; the Netherlands’ special envoy for migration, Peter Schoorman; Head of the Sahel, West Africa and Great Lakes Department, Tegmen Roseboom, among others.
The Nigerian government delegation included the Nigerian Ambassador to the Netherlands, Dr. Eniola Ajayi. Federal High Commissioner for Migrant Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons, Tijjani Ahmed; Representative of the Minister of Interior. Among other things.
