Israel drew a catch-up match in the European Championship qualifying round 1-1 in Velskot, Hungary – because it had to move due to the conflict in Gaza – against Switzerland, which is not quite sure of qualifying yet.
Switzerland set the tone in the first half and eventually took the lead after 36 minutes from a Ruben Vargas header. It seemed that the guests were on their way to victory for a long time, but the dramatic end spoiled the direct qualification for the European Championship.
In the 90th minute of the match, Sean Wiseman awarded a point to the Israeli. Switzerland also fell by ten in stoppage time after the red card from Edmilson Fernandes.
After eight days of matches, Switzerland shared the top spot in Group A with Romania. Both teams have sixteen points. That’s four goals more than first-chasing Israel, which still has a chance to advance after a draw. The group is completed by Kosovo (10 points), Belarus (6 points) and Andorra (2 points).
The match between Israel and Switzerland was postponed in early October due to the conflict in the Gaza Strip. Last weekend, Israel lost its other match against Kosovo, 1-0.
