Dutch transmission system operator Enexis has been awarded a “capacity determination” contract for a 5.6 MW solar power plant. It said the deal was the second contract of its kind awarded to a renewable energy plant operator, following a similar contract in November 2022 for a 10-megawatt wind farm operated by Dutch energy company Eneco.
The 5.6 MW solar farm is owned and operated by Inxess, Inc. said EJ pet food manufacturer Forest in Vianen, Brabant province.
“Enexis said in a statement that CBC is a form of congestion management that allows the electricity grid to be used more efficiently. “At peak times we ask the solar collector to pump less electricity into the grid. In return, we pay compensation for this form of rush hour avoidance.
CBCs can be granted in the Netherlands through Congestion Service Providers (CSPs) who act as intermediaries, in order to make optimal use of available space on the network.
Most recently, Dutch electricity transmission system operator Tenet said it would invest 13 billion euros ($13.3 billion) to expand the national high-voltage grid. The plan includes construction 40 new high voltage land stations In every governorate.
In January 2019, Tennet and Enexis first warned that there was very limited capacity to produce more solar energy in the provinces of Groningen, Drenthe and Overijssel.
