Due to the snow, the weather may become slippery in some places this evening and overnight, KNMI warns. This warning does not apply to the west of the country. Moreover, it filters and cools further, with temperatures around the freezing point reaching -2 degrees.
We can also expect snow in the Limburg Hills this evening and tonight.
There is also a chance of snow tomorrow. The day starts with sunshine, but rain or snow is expected later in the day. Due to frozen wet sections of road, the weather may become locally slippery tomorrow. Only in the evening will the north see more rain or wet snow.
The first snow fell in the Netherlands last weekend in Limburg. The day started with heavy rain in the country. In the east, this increasingly turned to wet snow around 2 p.m., and to harder snow in slightly higher areas, Buienradar reports.
Still a little white in the morning
According to Buienradar’s Martin Dorrestein, there may be a small snow cover in the east tonight, when the snow finally stops falling. He expects that “in places where there is no gravel” it will still be “a bit white” tomorrow morning. In other governorates, the rain did not turn into wet snow.
There is also a chance of snowfall on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Snowfall on Wednesday “starts in the morning.” “There will be wintry rain, certainly wet snow, but probably also some harder snow,” Dorrestein says.

Every year, there is an average of 19 days when it snows. In the East this number is somewhat higher. The average number of days during which there is a closed snow cover — a layer of snow at least a centimeter thick without the subsoil visible — is rapidly decreasing due to global warming. In the previous climatic period 1981-2010, the country had on average 37 days of closed snow cover, and in the middle of the last century this was still 58 days.
