Oudesluis – NPO presenter and English expert Tim de Wit will come to Cultuurkerkje in Oudesluis on Thursday 2 November. De Wit will give a lecture there on his book “Wankel’s Kingdom.”
“Shaken Kingdom” reflects the turbulent times in which the United Kingdom finds itself and especially how this is defined by surprises. Tim de Wit has been a correspondent for NOS and Trouw in the UK (England, Scotland and Wales) for many years. De Wit published his book “The Shaken Kingdom: How I Saw Britain Change by Brexit” in mid-2022. He is currently the presenter of the NPO Radio 1 program “Bureau Buitenland”. He also produces the podcast “Europe Turns Door”.
In 2014 Tim de Wit settled as a correspondent in relatively quiet London. What followed was a roller coaster of political events, intrigue, and, above all, chaos. The country has been turned upside down, and in fact it still is. In his book The Shaken Kingdom, de Wit looks at what’s under the hood of the United Kingdom. And it turned out: it creaks and creaks from all sides. Scotland wants to leave, the weather is bad in Northern Ireland, Boris Johnson happily lies, and even after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, oligarchs in London are treated sparingly. The future after Brexit is quite uncertain. Meanwhile, the British hope that everything will work out.
