Even in 2023, there will still be movies that are not easy to get in good quality. “True Lies” was one such case. Director James Cameron recently explained why in an interview.
But movie fans get supplies: Four Cameron classics have been available on Apple TV since December 12: “Aliens: The Return,” “Titanic,” “The Abyss” and “True Lies.” Blu-ray releases are expected to follow in the spring.
But the upgrade from True Lies is currently causing buzz.
Artificial intelligence in action?
Opinions differ on what a movie should look like (also when it comes to FPS). Artificial intelligence may have been used in the remake of Schwarzenegger’s action classic, movie website JoBlo suspects. But see for yourself:
You can see it at first glance: In the photo on the right, the actors look so smooth, as if they were made of wax.
The author of the article about JoBlo admits that it does not look as unnatural in the gif as in the screenshot. However, “True Lies” looks completely different in 4K than what you’re used to before. The grain is not coarse, and everything is “smooth.”
In this short video, Maxe explains to you what exactly 4K is and whether we’ll have to switch to 8K soon:

What is 4K and do you need 8K?
You can find more examples of “True Lies” and how the actors look waxed in this Reddit thread.
Over at X (formerly Twitter), Luke Ryan, who wrote for JoBlo, has very clear words for the 4K version of Cameron’s film.

There is an interesting addition: Obviously, Cameron’s other 4K releases don’t look like that, or at least they don’t matter as much as “True Lies.”
AI can also be a real resource for bringing old movies and series into the new millennium. For example, fans of the old Star Trek series are using artificial intelligence to see their commanders with better accuracy. TechCrunch and Tech Radar reported.
In this article we have discussed how CGI technology is ruining cinema to some extent:
Finally, we get James Cameron’s old blockbusters in contemporary resolution. This changes the look of the film, but in the case of “True Lies” it upsets some fans. What do you think of the comparison photos? Do they not clarify what you want from the 4K remaster and do you think that using artificial intelligence for this purpose is legitimate at all?
