Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny resumed contacts with colleagues after three weeks. Navalny was in contact with his lawyer on Monday, according to his spokeswoman Kira Yarmysh.
Navalny has disappeared without a trace since early December. He was then transferred to another penal colony, but it was not clear which one. Navalny has been detained for more than three years.
Since his transfer, he has missed at least two sessions against him. His team raised the alarm when they could no longer contact him. The fact that Navalny's health has recently deteriorated has added to the concerns.
On Monday, his lawyer contacted Navalny. The opposition leader is now in a penal colony in the Yamalo-Nenets region in northern Russia. Navalny is in good condition, according to his spokesman.
Navalny (47 years old) is serving a year in prison. He was sentenced for this, among other things, for fraud. Outside Russia, the Kremlin is believed to have marginalized its biggest critics through a show trial.
In recent years, Navalny has been detained in a high-security penal colony in the Vladimir region. From there, his voice was regularly heard on social media through his team. He also attended the new hearings via video connection.
