On the first day of the new tennis season, Spain and Great Britain won their first group match in the Fed Cup. Spain defeated Brazil 2-1 in Perth, Australia, while the British proved their strength against Australia 2-1 at the end of the day.
Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina put his country in the lead by defeating Thiago Siboth Wilde in singles with a score of 6-4, 6-0. Then Brazilian Beatrice Haddad Maya equalized the score.
