American gymnasts extended their world title at the World Championships in Liverpool. For the United States, this is the sixth straight world title in the team competition. The US team, which includes Jordan Chiles, Chiles Jones, Jade Curry, Sky Blakely and Lien Wong, scored 166.564 points.
Despite Blakely's fall on the beam, American gymnasts remained ahead of Great Britain by 3,201 points. Carey, an Olympic floor champion, was also on hand in 2019 when America won the world title. At that year's World Championships in Stuttgart, the team's last match was scheduled.
The British gymnasts took silver with 163.363 points, with a fall on beam as well. This meant their second ever Women's World Cup medal. In 2015, the British won a bronze medal in Glasgow.
In Liverpool, the bronze medal went to the Canadian gymnasts, as they qualified for the final in eighth place at the expense of the Netherlands. The difference with the Dutch team in the qualifiers was only 0.265 points. The Canadian team, led by three-time Olympian Elizabeth Black, gave a flawless performance and scored 160.563 points. The gymnasts thus won their country's first World Cup team medal.
Japan, which was still on course for a bronze medal after three apparatus, missed out on the medals due to a large number of errors committed by Kokoro Fukasawa. Fukasawa did not score more than 9.4 points in the final apparatus and thus lost the chance to obtain a medal. Japan ranked seventh with 156,964 points.
The Dutch team was unable to qualify for the country's final. The Netherlands finished ninth in the qualifiers and thus narrowly missed the final battle. The women reached five individual finals. Naomi Visser will compete in the all apparatus, bars and floor finals, while Tisha Volleman (all apparatus) and Sanna Vierman (bridge) also qualified for the final.
