The direct train between Amsterdam and Basel in Switzerland will make its final journey this summer. According to Volkskrant, Germany's Deutsche Bahn, NS, no longer wants to run an ICE train to the city. The two railway companies want to operate a new line to Munich from 2025.
In fact, direct contact will only be taken out of circulation with the arrival of the new schedule. But since there will be extensive work on the track in southern Germany next summer, the last direct ICE train to Basel will leave on July 15. From now on, passengers traveling to Basel can use the direct night train or travel during the day via the Mannheim transfer service, which takes 6.5 hours.
NS and Deutsche Bahn see that more and more travelers want to take the train to Munich, the third largest city in Germany. That's why there are plans to drive directly from Amsterdam to the city. The connection will then pass through Utrecht, Arnhem, Frankfurt Airport and Stuttgart, and should start from 2025. The final decision on the new connection to Munich still depends on the capacity allocation by network operators in Germany and the Netherlands, which will take place in August.
